For the most part, I’m kinda over shooting big shows. They’re cool and all that, who can argue with crowds that size or the sheer scale of the productions? But honestly, I like smaller shows because of the access I can get to photograph. Give me a close, intimate creative relationship with a band playing basements over an arena show from the sound desk any day.
All that being said…when those bands I am lucky enough to work so closely with do get the chance to play a big stage it’s nothing short of a pure joy to photograph them there.
I’ve been shooting for Crashes since day 1, and to see them now, a mere 3 years later, playing on a stage this size…it makes even my cold, black, little goth heart swell with pride. In between the huffing and puffing and sweat of trying to cover the whole of the 02 Academy across a 20 minute set. I’m too old for this game…
Unsurprisingly they totally smashed it, those songs they’ve slaved over worked wonderfully in such a big room. It says a lot about how great this band are and how much sincere good will and enthusiasm they bring with them that they had such a large crowd for hitting the stage barely after doors. My boys done really, really fucking good.
Here’s a few of my favourite from the show.
