Last weekend, I was lucky enough to have the privilege of Fatherson inviting me a along to photograph their biggest headline show to date at Glasgow’s legendary, and sprawling, O2 Academy.
This was the biggest show I’ve ever shot with this level of access, so it was a little daunting to take on but the only way to deal these things is do them isn’t it? It was a challenging shoot: an 18 song set plus backstage coverage in a huge venue across multiple levels , and I’ve never, ever been sweatier when working, but it was a blast nonetheless. You don’t often get to attend shows bursting with this much love and good will, and I’m really pleased for the band that this big step-up worked so well for them. It’s a big statement of intent, one I’m pretty confident they’ll follow through on.
As well as it being a fantastic show, it further cemented my feeling that AAA, even in the smallest venue, will always trump 3 songs and out for the biggest artists in the world. If you want to really document the genuine, sincere and visceral emotions that comes with people sharing their love for music and performing, the less limitations the better.
Here’s some of my favourite photos from the night.
